Someone sustains a brain injury every few seconds in the U.S. More than 5 million Americans alive today have had a TBI resulting in a permanent need for help in performing daily activities.

Who Are Most at Risk for TBI?

Males are about 1.5 times more likely than females to be at risk.

The two age groups at highest risk for TBI are 0 to 4 year olds (falls) and 15 to 19 year olds (motor vehicle crashes).

Members of the military, especially veterans of Iraq or Afghanistan.

African Americans have the highest death rate from TBI.
-
People who abuse alcohol/drugs are more at risk, and they have poorer outcomes after a TBI.
