| The Senior Center has the services of a full time GrandCare Director, Sue M. Korenstein and a case coordinator. The GrandCare Program provides support groups, formal case management, advocacy, information and referral, and linkage with support to other providers and community agencies that work with grandparents and other kin caregivers who are parenting children.
Provides five support groups per month at various times, dates and locations throughout Mecklenburg County. Many programs are offered at the Senior Center and other community locations. GrandCare has expanded its services to this specific population, and includes advocating for grandparents with children regarding custody issues, housing, school related issues, family counseling, and other issues. The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group provides emotional and educational support to the grandparents. Guest speakers are invited to provide insight into topics having to do with childrearing as well as some of the legal, medical and financial concerns of grandfamilies. Grandparents support each other while finding solutions to common concerns. Childcare is provided.
